The bags, priced £8, will be available in April, after the Easter holiday, in selected Hotel Chocolat stores nationwide as well as its Rabot Estate cocoa plantation and Boucan Hotel & Restaurant in Saint Lucia.
The juco bags, made from a mixture of 75 per cent jute and 25 per cent cotton, are of a luxury design with a fine fabric weave and feature a range of unique prints for people to collect.
Producing reusable bags out of juco underlines both companies’ strong commitment to sustainability, the environment and ethical production.
Hotel Chocolat was founded in 2004 to make exciting chocolate with three guiding principles – authenticity, originality and ethics – that remain central to the brand’s success today.
Its Engaged Ethics programme is transforming the lives of cocoa-growing communities in Ghana and Saint Lucia, and they are committed to reducing waste, using every part of the cacao bean as part of their production processes.
Jutexpo is the world’s biggest supplier of reusable jute and juco bags. It operates to the Jutexpo Standard, a set of the 10 key elements it considers to be the minimum when it comes to ethical and technical standards, awards and credentials.
Sam Turner, compliance director of Jutexpo, said: “We are delighted to be working with Hotel Chocolat and producing this great range of juco bags, which prove that you can combine a quality product with a sophisticated look in an environmentally friendly and ethically sound way.”
